Honduras : Profile
Olympic Record:
Honduras have impressed regional level when qualifying for the Men’s Olympic Tournament, entering as CONCACAF champions twice in the three previous occasions the Central American side have reached the Summer Games. However, in their short history with the tournament – their first appearance was at Sydney 2000 – they have only escaped the group stage once. That occasion came at London 2012 when they reached the quarter-finals, which was a marked improvement for Los Catrachos, who claimed four points during their maiden campaign and left Beijing 2008 without a win.
The Road to Rio
Honduras reached the semi-finals of the 2015 CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Tournament after taking second in Group B to set-up a tense last-four clash against USA. The Stars and Stripes may have been favourites going into the match, but Carlos Tabora's side stunned the Salt Lake City crowd with Alberth Elis’ brace securing Honduras direct qualification to Rio 2016 at the North Americans’ expense in a 2-0 victory. Honduras fell to Mexico 2-0 in the final, but that result will matter little to Los Catrachos, who are now appearing in their third consecutive Olympic games.
Former stars
Danilo Turcios, Noel Valladares and David Suazo (2000), Carlos Pavon and Ramon Nunez (2008), Andy Najar and Luis Garrido (2012)
The stat
9 – Honduras have earned a total of nine points from their three previous appearances at the Men’s Olympic Football Tournament, comprised of two wins and three draws.

Nigeria international Ogenyi Onazi has said he believes the country will clinch Olympics bronze on Saturday by beating Honduras in Belo Horizonte.

"I have been wishing them well at the event right from day one, I always speak with coach Siasia and I really appreciate them for coming this far in the competition despite all what they went through, they have done well,” he said.
“I just wish them well for the third-place match and I believe they will fight for that and God will grant them victory to clinch the bronze."
